We started back to school on Monday! I tried to start off full speed, but I was quickly reminded that pregnant ladies can't move desks, totes full of books, or a 15' x 30' rug. I was glad to have the whole week to get things pulled back together. It was great to have a strong helper to come move all the big things and put together the new student mailboxes I ordered! <i>Thanks hubby! </i></div>

Our school uses CHAMPS as a classroom management tool. I LOVE CHAMPS, it really helps anchor the kiddos. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
C- Conversation- what is the voice level? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
H- Help- how will I get help? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A- Activity- what am I working on? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
M- Movement- how will we move, or where will we be? </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
P- Participation - I write the <b>I can </b>statement here. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
S- Social Contract- what are we working on this week? (Each week the students pick one thing of the Social Contract to practice) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For more on CHAMPS or Social Contract visit <a href="http://flippengroup.com/education/edupc.html" target="_blank">Capturing Kids Hearts with the Flippen Group</a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Another view of CHAMPS, our Open Court letter cards and the American Sign Language Alphabet. The Kindergarteners really LOVE learning the signs for each letter. It is AWESOME when we start sounding out words I can just hold up the sign for the letter and the kids can check the alphabet cards. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Classroom jobs- I used clip-art from different documents that I have downloaded from TPT, like the schedule cards or other job charts. We will use clothespins to show who has what job each week. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Word Wall- This is one of my favorite areas in my classroom. The wall is covered in felt (bought from Joann). Each sight word that is added to the word wall has Velcro on the back, that way the students can go to the word wall, get the word they need, take it to their seat, then put it back when they're done. It really helps 5 & 6 year-olds use the word wall instead of looking up and down and trying to keep track of where they are. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Writing Center- This is currently what I have set up as our Writing Center. I had a table here before with a shelving unit/ paper sorter on top. The table was taken for use elsewhere in the building and the shelving unit/ paper sorter was damaged over the summer. I'm still working with this to see how to make it the most functional. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Cubbies- Each student gets a cubby and 1 hook underneath. It gets kinda messy underneath because the kids backpacks, coats, sweaters, lunchboxes etc., get tangled together. At the beginning of the year I write the student's names on their cubby tags, later on the students will write their own names. Each cubby also has a blue pencil box to hold the student's reward coupons or Taylor Tokens (which are used at the school store). </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Beginning of the Year Goals- As part of our curriculum students must make, track and reflect on personal goals. Each student will choose one goal at a time to work on. When then master the goal they will earn a sticker on their name card/tag that is displayed on the goal chart. (Again I haven't written out name cards because my class list isn't finalized yet). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Goals: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Follow Social Contract </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Write Name & Date on papers </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Use SLANT (<b>S</b>it-up, <b>L</b>isten, <b>A</b>sk questions, <b>N</b>od, <b>T</b>rack the speaker)... basically.. sit up and look at the teacher/presenter while he/she is talking. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Remember Morning Routine (Hang up Backpack, put away Folder, tell Lunch choice, start Do-Now)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Independence </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
- Keep materials and space neat </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Daily Folders- these tubs will be put on the floor each morning in front of the mailboxes so the students can reach to file their folders into a hanging green file. I didn't think the kids would be able to do this, but they can! It makes pack up so much better, faster, and if a kid has to leave they can quickly grab their folder without digging through 28 others. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Mailboxes- I used hand-me-down cardboard mailboxes last year to test out this idea. I LOVE the MAILBOXES!!!! Way easier for me and the kiddos and no lost papers in the great abyss of cubbies. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
* How is your classroom coming along? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
* When do your kiddos show up? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
* Am I the only one that doesn't feel ready?!? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Classroom books for Daily 5. I tried to have these organized in different baskets last year, but it didn't work. They will now be organized by level. I made these cute <a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6MTLuj1vv-1WDctaGthTGlhSzA/edit?usp=sharing">star labels</a>! Printed on address labels & cut in half. We will also have some non-leveled books organized by subject.<br />

PINTEREST... and HAD to try it. Print out what you want to paint onto your project using Microsoft Word, trace and perfect!<br />
<br />
Her is a sign for outside of my classroom:<br />
<u>Supplies</u>:<br />
- Wood from Joann's ($2)<br />
<i>- </i>Silver marker<i> on hand ($4) </i><br />
<i>- </i>Navy spray paint <i>on hand ($1.50)</i><br />
- Cute anchor ($0.70)<br />
<br />
1. Sprayed wood navy blue, dried over night.<br />
2. Typed "Mrs. Brady Kindergarten" in Microsoft Word <span style="background-color: white;">I made sure I put the font on "outline" [select font, right click, FONT, then click on "outline"]. </span><br />
3. Traced words onto spray painted wood.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4XjkHV5cJ8xvnt0BAfJDDo6_Sg21V-b_Cosn0hUsuHWFHuPXraoN_jEWj5awG7-umXDaDZpf0FpqFItcgf2IGMWTrZZIJsQSKxvk8Q7Y2HTU4VOcsA-I8Ke2nnSFVbtH5JMF_Hq0TS9aj/s1600/2012-07-05_15-20-42_201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4XjkHV5cJ8xvnt0BAfJDDo6_Sg21V-b_Cosn0hUsuHWFHuPXraoN_jEWj5awG7-umXDaDZpf0FpqFItcgf2IGMWTrZZIJsQSKxvk8Q7Y2HTU4VOcsA-I8Ke2nnSFVbtH5JMF_Hq0TS9aj/s320/2012-07-05_15-20-42_201.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Painted letters in with a paint pen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiculgCyLLNS-gT1JOfx9aJlDjRAFwCgCop3OxYVgEQilZG9bzMa9tUVWmDTVp90QICgex_UCHyAbdmy9zJRlfGEHmo2LISBkSXvINV337NCdRrvQLI3CvOyrrs_dZ2IHAGJa6kl39Ejl3b/s1600/2012-07-05_15-21-19_52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiculgCyLLNS-gT1JOfx9aJlDjRAFwCgCop3OxYVgEQilZG9bzMa9tUVWmDTVp90QICgex_UCHyAbdmy9zJRlfGEHmo2LISBkSXvINV337NCdRrvQLI3CvOyrrs_dZ2IHAGJa6kl39Ejl3b/s320/2012-07-05_15-21-19_52.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
5. Painted anchor white, then added silver polka dots around anchor<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
6. Glue anchor onto sign.<br />
7. Sprayed with clear to "set" and "save" my sign for years to come!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
This is a place mat that I used the same technique on:<br />
1. I bought this place mat at Joann's on clearance this week ($1-2).<br />
2. I printed out "Welcome to the Brady's" using Microsoft Word. I made sure I put the font on "outline" [select font, right click, FONT, then click on "outline"].<br />
3. Pushed VERY hard while tracing the words onto the foam place mat.<br />
4. Ta-da!<br />

I purchased 2 black tablecloths for $1 ea, 1 rainbow tablecloth for $3, and 2 brightly colored tablecloths, $1 ea. After our evening church service we set up 3 long tables in the middle of our fellowship hall (black, rainbow, black) then put on 5 </span>cylindrical vases running the length of the tables. Each vase was filled "Easter" basket straw (one of each color: pink, orange, yellow, green, blue). I made signs for the different types of desserts and placed them into the colored vases (like a cupcake topper). Categories were brownies, cupcakes, pies, specialty desserts, and cookies. Looking back I should have added a "cake" category. </span></div><div><span ><br /></span></div><div><span >[Going, going, gone!] </span></div><div><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; ">The auction usually lasts about 1.5-2 hours. People are pretty spent by the end of the event, so we try to move quickly. I choose a dessert off of the display table then students show off each dessert around the fellowship hall for about 2 minutes before we bring it to the front to auction off. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, serif; ">We start each dessert at $5.</span><span > We make it kinda cutesy and give everyone a homemade auction paddle (numbered small paper plates taped on to thick Popsicle sticks). My husband is the MC of the event, he points to people as they bid on each dessert. When someone wins an item we have one adult at the head table writing down who bought the dessert and for how much. The dessert is then delivered to the winner by the student who walked it around the hall. Since we are hoping people will buy multiple items we wait until the end of the event to ask people to settle their "tab." Desserts usually sell for $5-$20. There are a few "special" desserts for a super-awesome-baker that go for a lot more. Super-awesome-baker's Cheesecake $70, Cookies $50, and her cake $45. We made about $1200 this year! </span></div><div><span ><br /></span></div><div><span >[My donations] </span></div><div><span >I was going to add in the cupcakes I made, but it's a lot. Get the gist? ...... there are a lot of little paper books in our room. I've been trying to get them organized and usable for the kiddos. <div><br /></div><div>Since we had a snow day Friday and we are down to one car I've been home all weekend and I've been working hard to get these books put together.</div><div><br /></div><div>I woke up Saturday with a great idea.... Zig Zag sew the spine of the books. Not to toot my own horn...but GENIUS! I'm so excited about these little books and I can't wait to get all the books done!</div><div><br /></div><div><i>My photos are uploading correctly... so I can only post 1 photo right now. </i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div>1. However, my dean informed me that writing "Merry Christmas" or giving out Nativity scenes was not advised and I could possibly be sued, I decided against it. If I can't write "Merry Christmas," then I won't say anything at all.... After brainstorming I figured I would send home cute little gingerbread people holding a candy cane and pencil. They were super cheap, and easy! I made them during my prep! </div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVRj7DZXG0uY7pCcF7MZTR-yLm7jMrDNSBAZqnfgSl8qGXBGwTYUcIGf95GtWVaVva6CqLigUobxzeK49y04qSE5KIQGc3ds4h2OMgHKM2XSmhqV2E6uYH6ybZtGGxVLMbVEz8M_eatPBE/s1600/gingerbread.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 190px; HEIGHT: 268px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693048692838939522" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVRj7DZXG0uY7pCcF7MZTR-yLm7jMrDNSBAZqnfgSl8qGXBGwTYUcIGf95GtWVaVva6CqLigUobxzeK49y04qSE5KIQGc3ds4h2OMgHKM2XSmhqV2E6uYH6ybZtGGxVLMbVEz8M_eatPBE/s320/gingerbread.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF2okIe92QG_keZtSRdFpG5jfje361Zso1LGvu-WsjZiKTrdIMKs-ufkeEhqkXLnaiWR2LhoBdqLH5a-AsSf782AwCqSkc1uar2PT6RlgcwbXS6VE6IfwAP96fRYdzxluSYXFZ-aKv2vqD/s1600/gingerbreads.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 223px; HEIGHT: 186px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693048686747943938" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF2okIe92QG_keZtSRdFpG5jfje361Zso1LGvu-WsjZiKTrdIMKs-ufkeEhqkXLnaiWR2LhoBdqLH5a-AsSf782AwCqSkc1uar2PT6RlgcwbXS6VE6IfwAP96fRYdzxluSYXFZ-aKv2vqD/s320/gingerbreads.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCy-Rg0dquxlFYOWb3IbzxEBkRfYRB99huhNexxbb4sg2s8kjw-RCR8qrqO5aDnvWtoWVSJCafYB_rQ2T4jzUFZnuRcn3e_d6NVS6WlWXfPMJet1Za2Dx6UQFn94bQRADutho6Abxnd6Vm/s1600/gingerbread+up+close.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 187px; HEIGHT: 275px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693048697670026818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCy-Rg0dquxlFYOWb3IbzxEBkRfYRB99huhNexxbb4sg2s8kjw-RCR8qrqO5aDnvWtoWVSJCafYB_rQ2T4jzUFZnuRcn3e_d6NVS6WlWXfPMJet1Za2Dx6UQFn94bQRADutho6Abxnd6Vm/s320/gingerbread+up+close.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>For the teachers at work I decided that I would "risk it" and attached super cute Nativity gift tags with "Merry Christmas" on the back to the bags of chocolate I bought at Target (on sale!).</div><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixnR4kx_O1PULaD2VQ5TC6hg2qNhwE0loPNsoB2fcLbxRxabVtUxFkA0_67cDyadI5Fa3167guhkkmdVHYSwW6u09LRKDBUoB5Q4k32NSGGCZ3a_jo964S52X4boR1ISMcDP2PR3KLKDcv/s1600/chocolate2.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 239px; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693047857044111762" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixnR4kx_O1PULaD2VQ5TC6hg2qNhwE0loPNsoB2fcLbxRxabVtUxFkA0_67cDyadI5Fa3167guhkkmdVHYSwW6u09LRKDBUoB5Q4k32NSGGCZ3a_jo964S52X4boR1ISMcDP2PR3KLKDcv/s320/chocolate2.jpg" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKx-K9fLwLFEI4bZrAlGChniwT4wzQ8XyU_FsFro-zbY7LoW8_znwf0bClXHn_Bz7Cz0yWJiA6n1Sn908f-a8xF0ukllxN7O7kk0kcWQNZ_FxyA3tN5BOhLUQ63UgT8rySZ7zbfTp14TiU/s1600/chocolate+up+close.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 239px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693048152534386770" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKx-K9fLwLFEI4bZrAlGChniwT4wzQ8XyU_FsFro-zbY7LoW8_znwf0bClXHn_Bz7Cz0yWJiA6n1Sn908f-a8xF0ukllxN7O7kk0kcWQNZ_FxyA3tN5BOhLUQ63UgT8rySZ7zbfTp14TiU/s320/chocolate+up+close.jpg" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><div><br /><div></div><br /><div>I am VERY blessed to have community helpers in my room from 3:00-3:40pm. I have 5 8th grade students who come in and help around my classroom. It's awesome because they can stack the chairs, which is required for each class, but my 5 yo's can't do it. They also cut out lamination, prepare work and centers for the kiddos and help in anyway I ask. <br />This week while babysitting/nannying I made some cards. I found the cutest little stamp at Joann's/Michael's... it says "you bring joy." I immediately had to get it!
<br />
<br />Things that bring me {JOY}
<br />* Jesus
<br />* my husband
<br />* crafting
<br />* sending & receiving cards
<br />* making food that people enjoy
<br />* making someones day
<br />* writing encouraging notes
<br />* [any kind of] teaching
<br />* sleeping
<br />* rain on the tin roof of our apartment window
<br />* cool autumn days
<br />* being on the lake
<br />
<br />What kind of things bring you {joy} ?
<br />
<br />Make a list and post it on your wall to remind you!

The event was after our evening service. <br /><br />We ask people to sign up (starting 3 weeks in advance) to donate desserts, they bring them in the day/night of the auction. The sign-up helps to limit the number of desserts. Sometimes the event goes for 2 hours or longer and starts to drag. If you're thinking of doing this MAKE SURE YOU LIMIT THE NUMBER OF DESSERTS. <br /><br />During church we set up the tables with all the desserts displayed. Right after church everyone walks around for about 15 minutes to look at all the desserts. <br /><br />Our youth pastor (my hubby) auctions off the desserts, starting anywhere from $2-5. Most of our items go for $10-20. ($20 for cookies is A LOT!!! Especially when it is all profit!) Some of the more "famous" desserts go for close to $100 each. <br /><br />This year we told the teens that 1. they had to make their own desserts in order for the money to go directly into their camp account and 2. they had to auction off their desserts- surprisingly the teens had a lot of fun auction off their own desserts. (all the donated items were put into a general fund for all the teens) <br /><br />We also auction off the teens in groups of 2. The teens can be bought to help with house work, babysitting, cleaning, yard work, etc. Instead of the teens going out to try and raise money on their own, the amount they are "bought" for goes into their individual camp account. <br /><br />It was a lot of fun and we raised $1300 in one night!emilyteganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597802163495069519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866184986248623702.post-19679978283965415592011-01-27T17:15:00.000-08:002011-01-27T17:27:31.185-08:00[WHATS LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?]<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIHtBCmTJjPkZal_LRgBgG2CCHczLFDciHOIzRi4JmI7IrZCwXi3LclylsJeSxF-ah8DKcenKWn6iuy6peZuyDhnnnGjx-pUbjc2QIXaPGiFFIVrJCOVNyE483_NNX0rY80xmoMDEGb9bX/s1600/2.5+youth+rally.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIHtBCmTJjPkZal_LRgBgG2CCHczLFDciHOIzRi4JmI7IrZCwXi3LclylsJeSxF-ah8DKcenKWn6iuy6peZuyDhnnnGjx-pUbjc2QIXaPGiFFIVrJCOVNyE483_NNX0rY80xmoMDEGb9bX/s320/2.5+youth+rally.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5567039933603735394" /></a><br /><br />We are going to a local [YOUTH RALLY]: "What's Love Got To Do With It?" We are looking forward to hearing about what God has to say about love, dating and relationships. Should be interesting since God is the one who created us to love, and we are able to love because He loved us first! <br /><br />I am so thankful that God protected me during high school and college, because I definitely had the opportunities to be stupid or for stupid things to happen especially when it comes to guys. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted in a man and it took an even longer time for me to figure out that what God created in a man for me is [MOST] important. <br /><br />Now that I have married the one that God created just for me I know how [AWESOME] God's plans are and how awesome things can be when I trust in Him. <br /><br /><br />I'll let you know what we learn about God and love at our up coming youth rally.emilyteganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597802163495069519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866184986248623702.post-84367139458029148682011-01-22T19:26:00.000-08:002011-01-22T20:07:18.858-08:00[LOCK IN] Joy Baptist ChurchMy husband and I are the teen leaders for a small Baptist church in Westland, Michigan. Our usually has about 100-150 on Sunday mornings. Westland is about 20 minutes west of Detroit. It is a middle class area with a lot of blue collar families. <br /><br />Currently in our HS (high school) group we have about 5 "kids" that come regularly. In our MS (middle school) group we have about 10 "kids" that come regularly. We usually only work with the HS-er's but sometimes do "combo" nights. A lot of our big events are both groups together. <br /><br /> <br /><a href="http://joybaptist.com">[Joy Baptist] <br /></a><br /><br />Recently we had a <span style="font-weight:bold;">[LOCK-IN]</span> or an "all nighter." We were planning on about 20-25 kids since we usually have about 20 on Sunday nights + a few friends. We ended up with 40 kids! and 5 adults. AWESOME! The event started at 9pm and went until 8am the next day. We had a lot of fun. <br /><br /> Below is the flyer we made using [PICNIK]. I like to think I'm a pro... but I'm not really... <span style="font-style:italic;">Teens also had to have a signed permission slip to attend the event. </span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSG0NUBDOoSYHkbhx8kXuXNx1d3Ug6YJuLZzEdimwQ0a5CGxjhjYNcJquLNCsLR0PDnMxoTj-tvIp0sEE-1MfzzFGHfVtQtxeDiPLFglBGdipHp5hL1-CKhbb_NLU8tT8uolFyFbMVf3hl/s1600/lock+in+color.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSG0NUBDOoSYHkbhx8kXuXNx1d3Ug6YJuLZzEdimwQ0a5CGxjhjYNcJquLNCsLR0PDnMxoTj-tvIp0sEE-1MfzzFGHfVtQtxeDiPLFglBGdipHp5hL1-CKhbb_NLU8tT8uolFyFbMVf3hl/s400/lock+in+color.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565221253246604002" /></a><br /><br />[ACTIVITIES] <br /><span style="font-style:italic;">more are listed on the flyer, i'm just highlighting a few. <br /></span><br />We made [T-SHIRTS], which I thought were a lot of fun. We bought t-shirts from Joann Craft Store and Michael's using store sale promos, cheap black spray paint. <br /><br />Rented a [BOUNCER] from <a href="http://www.timetoplayrentals.com/aboutus.htm">Time To Play</a><br />The kids LOVED it. It was rented for $200 for 8 hours and well worth the money. The only issue was the tiny child size opening, but we made it work! <br /><br />A lot of the night was spent in the gym (with the bouncer set up) playing [BASKETBALL]. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to/"> [MINUTE TO WIN IT]</a> We looked for stuff around our apartment and church, bought some things from Dollar Tree and improvised a lot. We had 2 people compete against each other for each game. The winner chose from the [1st PLACE] bucket and the looser chose from the [2nd PLACE] bucket. 1st place prizes were movie size candies from Kroger and Dollar Tree and some other $1 items. 2nd place prizes were fun size candies and 5 piece packs of gum. [TEENS LOVE GUM] <br /><br />[FOOD]<br />I was super panicked about not having enough food- but I actually had to take some BACK! YES- KROGER DOES RETURNS!!! AWESOME.<br /><br />We bought tortilla chips from Kroger- $1 a bag and cheese from GFS to make [NACHOS] <br /><br />Bought candy and chips and stuffs from Kroger, all Kroger brand, kids didn't even know! <br /><br />Served [ICE CREAM] after the Bible lesson... was a little disorganized... but we made it work. <br /><br />Ordered 10 pizza's from [HUNGRY HOWIES] the guy thought we were pranking him. We had a 25% off coupon from our $5 "damaged" Entertainment Coupon Book. <br /><br />We had more than enough food, because as the night went on people were eating less and less. <br /><br />[IMPROVEMENTS] for our next Lock-In<br />Scavenger hunt <br />More structure (for younger teens. they did a lot of wondering) <br />More, More, More- it would be better to be over prepared... at some points the night dragged a little bit.<br /><br />Overall it was fun and hopefully we can do another one soon[ish]emilyteganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597802163495069519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866184986248623702.post-34288081116669158182011-01-22T19:17:00.000-08:002011-01-22T19:24:00.249-08:00[Re-do] Starting my blog againWell, here is try number two. After thinking of a cute name and laying out my blog my summer went pretty quickly. I spent the months leading up to my wedding at the poolside and with two action packed kids. I spent a lot of time getting ready for my wedding and trying to find a job after I had been laid off. <br /><br />[2011 UPDATES] <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">[JOB]</span> Currently I worked for a charter school in Taylor. I am a parapro (a kind of teacher assistant) <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">[LIFE]</span> I have been HAPPILY married for about 4 months now. It has it ups and downs, but we couldn't be happier. <br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">[CHURCH]</span> My husband and I are working with the high school teens at church now and trying to figure out how to get that all under control and organize and EXCITING for the "kids." <br /><br /><br />I'm not sure what the goal or audience of my blog is yet. I'll probably just be posting updates about things we do with our teens at church and how we are getting our lives started as newlyweds!emilyteganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597802163495069519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5866184986248623702.post-51586490860857568862010-06-26T20:06:00.000-07:002010-06-26T20:14:26.468-07:00[Day One] I'm in a little jamToday when I was making [Rhubarb] jam with my Oma[grandma] I decided I was going to start a blog about my [changing] life.<br /><br />I was recently laid off [Yes- I live in Michigan] and I will be nanny-ing this summer as well as preparing for my wedding. So I thought I'd record what I [hope to] get done!<br /><br />I have a long laundry list of things to do with all my [free] time this summer. I hope to keep track of them here. <br /><br /><br />I picked hope-always-floats because my [soon to be retired] last name sometimes gets pronounced as hope-floats. I also think the hope and always incorporate my beliefs in the LORD [Jesus Christ} and the fact that my hope [and faith] in God gets me through even the deepest waters. <br /><br /><br />[emily]emilyteganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14597802163495069519noreply@blogger.com0
